Dorten is publishing the German version of an American Bestseller: “The Houdini Solution”
How do you end up translating and publishing a book?
You read the book, like it and say: Let’s just do this, because then we A) have the book in German and B) we might also learn something. And when you’re done you even have a product on your hands you can market.
The decision was made two years ago. What took you so long?
The mistakes! We’ve continuously been stumbling overour own feet. Be it contracts, translation, typesetting, book printing … whenyou’re doing that on the side, you do things over and over again. And wrong, too. That’s what makes this project so valuable for us, because we did learn a lot.
What do you personally like about the book?
There are an awful lot of books about creativity, but most of the turn out to be dead cabalistic. They give me the creeps. Ernie Schenck is simple, unpretentious and gets to the point. That’s what I like about the book and it’s also why I’m glad we did this.
