Ulrike, what is the basic idea behind the Art Expedition?
The Art Expedition is based on the plot that an artist meets a collector for a kind of blind date and they share their love and enthusiasm for contemporary art and discuss their ideas and experiences.
Was it difficult to find a good balance between the art and the car, the hidden protagonist of the shoot?
The car doesn’t dominate the film. It’s a supporting actor, not the leading one. Our two characters travel from A to B in the car and talk a bit in the car, but the vehicle is integrated very naturally. You filmed one year prior to market launch of the 5Series Gran Tourismo.
Yes, indeed –that was exciting. We worked with a prototype which had a life of its own at one point! We’d like to do Art Expeditions with other BMW models in the future– in different countries with local collectors and artists.
